Mental Health & Mindfulness Blog - Day 1 (Ben Abrahams, Jan. 6th)


Today was the first day of our Mental Health and Mindfulness M-Term! We started the day with an introduction to yoga by Post Oak's own Dr. Beth Reese, and moved into a lecture introducing us to neuroscience and the connection between the mind and body. After a quick break, we resumed the day with some inventorying of our snacks for the week, making sure we had enough for everyone.

After our lunch break, we resumed the day with the HBO movie "Turtles All The Way Down," about a girl and her journey with obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD. We paused in the middle and at the end to reflect on our learnings, and discuss concepts explored in the film. Finally, to end the day, we had an introduction to breathing techniques from Ms. Bhatia.

I enjoyed the first day of our M-Term, and am excited to continue through the end of next week. My favorite part of the day was the movie, which I thought was very well produced and touched on a lot of interesting themes. I am also grateful for Dr. Reese and Ms. Bhatia, who make the yoga and breathing exercises more interactive and enjoyable.
